1. Major John H. III Cessna was born on Jan 26 1726 in Shippensburg, Cumberland County, Pennsylvania. He died on Mar 31 1802 in Bedford County, Pennsylvania.
John served six years as Sheriff of Bedford County, Pennsylvania 1771-1781-1783. He was appointed Coroner of Bedford County, Pennsylvania by John Penn, Esq. in 1773. He spelled his last name, "Cesne" when he signed the constitution and when he signed Bedford County documents as Sheriff. (K. Cessna) in 1776. He was a member of the Frontier Safety Comittee in 1776. He was a member of the Provincial Assembly and Constitutional Convention of 1775 and a Colonel in the Revolutionary War. He was Justice of the Peace 1779-1782-1790. He was Collector of Excise Bedford County, Pennsylvania in 1780.

John became gaurdian of Eleanor Tantlinger Apr 22 1792, a minor child of Henry Tantlinger and upon a motion of Mr. Nawgle, John Cessna, Jr, was appointed guardian over John Tantlinger another child of Henry's after Henry was killed by Indians on Jun 3 1781. He at the request of Catherine wife of Henry was appointed guardian over Henry Tantlinger Jr in Feb 1794 in Bedford Court.
John married Mary McCauslin on Mar 2 1786 in Bedford Co., Pennsylvania. Mary was born on Sep 21 1768 in Ireland. She died on Sep 25 1825 and was buried in Sep 1825 in Memorial Park, near Bedford Methodist Church, Bedford, Bedford County, Pennsylvania.
